But the same paradise has been left in a state of shock and sadness as a person of 66 years of age has lost his life in a fatal avalanche. Avalanche horror unfolded in the snowy paradise

66-year-old Kenneth Kidd lost his life in a fatal avalanche at the Palisades Tahoe Resort, which is situated on the Californian side of Lake Tahoe. Authorities have revealed the identity of the victim and also shared that the man is a resident of both Point Reyes and the Truckee area.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has stated that the unexpected and sad demise of the 66-year-old adventure-seeking soul marks the first death of this winter season. Fortunately enough, reports have stated that no person has been reported missing. In a press meeting last Wednesday, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. David Smith stated that the search operations have been concluded.

The vice president of mountain operations at Palisades Tahoe, Michael Gross, shared that 66-year-old Kenneth Kidd was buried in the avalanche. As the deadly avalanche descended, it measured up to 50 feet wide, 450 feet long, and 10 feet deep. As soon as the rescue team was informed at around 9:30 am local time last Wednesday, they started their rescue operations. The avalanche roared down near the newly opened KT-22 lift which was opened on the very same day about 30 mins ago.

The Palisades Tahoe Resort officials also stated that two other visitors were also caught in the avalanche and were fortunately saved with minor injuries. Both sides of the mountains have been closed to prevent any further mishaps.

Dee Byrne, the President and CEO of the Palisades Resort, mourned the loss of their valued guest. He said,This is a very sad day for my team and everyone here”. Byrne further added, “We have a lot to learn yet”. Investigation on the matter is ongoing. 

The Sierra Nevada mountains have been already covered with a blanket of snow and, as the weather prediction goes, it states the place is awaiting more snowfall in the coming days.
