Several Athletes From UFC Austin Set to Face Six-Month Suspensions If They Fail Medical Clearance Post-Event in Texas

Behind the on-court UFC battles, fighters often wear the scars of those battles both seen and unseen. The echoes of bone-crushing continue to resonate in the aftermath of UFC showdowns. Recently, The Moody Center in Austin, Texas witnessed a night of intense jaw-dropping matchups that truly left them on the edge of their seats. But the thrill came at a cost as a roster of fighters is now struggling against a formidable challenge. 

A group of warriors are waiting to recover from the aftereffects of UFC Austin. Each fighter’s journey is marked with specifications of their suspension and this has raised a question regarding the physical toll of a pursuit where glory continues to intertwine with anguish.

Injuries loom as UFC Austin fighters get benched

The suspense in the air is palpable as names like Arman Tsarukyan, Bobby Green, and Beneil Dariush are waiting for a medical clearance. The lightweight veterans are hovering on the edge of potentially getting suspended for a stretch of six months.

The UFC Austin showdown unraveled last Saturday evening in Texas and was live telecast on ESPN+. As the adrenaline of the UFC Austin faded, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation which is in charge of the state’s combative sports program shared their narrative. They released a list of medical suspensions from the event.

Beneil Dariush lost the match to Arman Tsarukyan and Bobby Green lost to Jalin Turner but sustained brutal injuries from the main and co-main events. Although Tsarukyan emerged victorious, the victory came at a cost. He too is awaiting a medical clearance in order to avoid a lengthy sit-out.

The referee who was in charge during the fight between Green and Turner was heavily criticized for the timing of the stoppage. A spokesperson from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said they would look into the matter.

Lightweight veteran, Tsarukyan has been suspended for a minimum of 30 days and also suspended 180 days unless medically cleared. Turner on the other hand has been suspended til December 10. Beneil Dariush too got suspended for a minimum of 60 days and also suspended for 180 days unless medically cleared. Bobby Green too shares the same position with Dariush in this aspect.

Besides these four lightweight veterans, Figueiredo has been suspended until December 17 and Rob Font until January 2, 2024. Kelvin Gastelum got suspended until December 12.

Joaquim Silva, similar to Green and Dariush is suspended a minimum of 60 days and also suspended 180 days unless medically cleared. Sean Brady too is suspended until December 12.

Besides these warriors, other renowned figures including Miesha Tate, Clay Guida, Dustin Stoltzfus, Julia Avila, and others are struggling against the same wrath.
