AB de Villiers might have retired from international cricket, but he managed to pull off one of his typical moments in a match between Nelson Mandela Bay Giants vs Tshwane Spartans in the Mzansi Super Leaue (MSL).

Playing for the Spartans, de Villiers was their highest scorer with 63 runs off 38 balls. During the innings, he managed to hit a ball behind the wickets with a reverse lap kind of a shot.

Junior Dala bowled a yorker, when de Villiers got into position to play a reverse lap met the ball directly to send it almost over the wicket-keeper and went into the boundary after a couple of bounces.

AB de Villier’s fiery innings took the Spartans to a score of 188 in their 20 overs. However, Bay Giants opener Ben Dunk took the game home for his team with an innings of 99 runs off 54 balls. He was helped in the end of an exciting run chase by Marco Marais, who came in and played an innings that made sure the Bay Giants went over the line.

“Really special innings from Marais there to come straightaway and the play the way he did at the back end,” Dunk was quoted as saying in the post match presentation after winning the man of the match award. “Treat to see this young South African talents coming up. Was tricky early on and I also got some luck there. I’d like to say a tough track to get started on, they bowled well. We tried to hang in there till the back end and Marais played a beautiful innings to get us across the line. Don’t think we would have gotten home if not for him.”

The win took Bay Giants level on points with the top placed Paarl Rocks in the Mzansi Super League points table.
