Watch Ben Askren Freak Out When he Sees Jorge Masvidal on Ariel Helwani’s Set

Ben Askren has announced his retirement from the sport. he made the announcement during his 10th appearance on Ariel Helwani’s show.

Ben Askren Announces Retirement

Ben Askren was unbeaten coming into the UFC. That apart he had two world championship in two different organizations to argue that he was one of the best to ever do it. Even his UFC debut was an epic moment even with the controversial finish. He was one of the most polarizing personalities in the sports and he lived up to all the expectations. However, things did not go in favor of the Funky One when he fought Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239.

Ben Askren suffered a devastating 5-second knockout loss against Masvidal that changed his world upside down. He was at a do or die position going into the fight against Demian Maia. Although he put up a great fight against Maia, he came up short again, losing the fight via submission. It can be said that the loss against Masvidal was the beginning of the end of Askren’s career. Had Askren won that fight, he would have probably fought for the title at the end of the year. Well, that’s in the past now as Askren bid his farewell to the sport.

However, Askren’s reaction when he sees a Jorge Masvidal flying knee bubblehead is priceless. During the interview with Helwani, when Askren noticed the bubblehead on Helwani’s table he screamed:

“OH MY GOSH! WAIT, HOLD ON! What is that right next to your computer on the left side? That is unexpectable. Get rid of it. I demand. Put it behind the coffee cup or something.”

Askren also revealed that he might go for a hip replacement surgery after the retirement. He added that he was suffering from severe hip injury before making his UFC debut.
