The protagonist, Ellie, is 19 years old now. The Last Of Us Part 2 expands on the relationships between characters and develops the incredible world further.

Following up with the reveal of the story trailer on May 12, developer Naughty Dog, alongside PlayStation, announced a new video series for the upcoming action-adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic United States. The series will narrate several aspects of the game, including the story, gameplay, minor details, and world it is set in. The first episode is available now.

Inside The Story: Last Of Us Part 2

The first episode of the video series is titled “Inside The Story”. It features director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and co-directors Kurt Margenau and Anthony Newman. The team discusses their approach in developing the narrative and shares new insights on the events and themes of the storyline.

Neil Druckmann outlines the game’s “cycle of violence” and emphasizes on how “acts beget other acts” by “showing all the different aspects that could come out of it. Not necessarily good or bad, just the different consequences of one’s actions.”

Halley Gross elaborates on how the studio is honoring Ellie and Joel’s journey as characters and how their lives have changed. “She has people who love and care for her and are willing to sacrifice for her. Joel is also very settled down.”

Responding to fans who ask why the original game needed a sequel, Anthony Newman says, “I didn’t even hear the full pitch of the game, just the outline of what Neil (director) was wanting to do with this game, and I realized, Oh, this is something we have to make. There’s absolutely more to do here.”

The video further consolidates the foundations of the game’s storyline, as revealed in previous trailers. Many years have passed since the events of the first game. Ellie and Joel have dwelled in a somewhat peaceful town in the mountains. Joel is no longer a smuggler. Both of them live relatively comfortable lives, functioning as a part of the small community. However, a violent event destroys the town’s peace and the people’s day-to-day lives. Hence, Ellie sets on a journey to Seattle for retribution against those who wronged her.

When are the next episodes for the video series?

With Last of Us 2 releasing in just over a month on June 19, Naughty Dog is continuing with the hype with a spoiler-free weekly video series. A new episode comes out every Wednesday for the next three weeks, as mentioned in PlayStation’s blog post.

After today’s first episode, the next episode, “Inside the Gameplay,” arrives on May 20. The third episode, “Inside the Details,” releases on May 27. Finally, the last one, “Inside the World,” drops on June 3.

Unfortunately, few of the scenes from the game were leaked across social media last month, upsetting a lot of fans. But the developers are determined to not let the game ruined.
