WATCH: New Zealand Miss Two Run-out Chances on One Ball in Auckland T20I

During the first T20I of against New Zealand in Auckland, New Zealand fielders missed a run-out chance. They failed to run-out KL Rahul and Virat Kohli not one but two times on the same delivery.

It all took place on the second delivery of the sixth over when Rahul played a shot towards cover off Hamish Bennett and instantly went for a single. However, he refused it in the mid-way after seeing both him and captain Kohli were running towards the same end.

As Kohli reached the striker’s end before Rahul, the opener made a herculean attempt to complete the single after cover fielder Tim Southee failed to throw the ball directly at the non-striker’s end. On the other hand, the mid-wicket fielder backed up his throw but surprisingly he also missed despite having a clear chance of running out KL Rahul. With this, they failed to dismiss Rahul second time in the same delivery.

Opening the batting with Rohit Sharma (7) in Shikhar Dhawan’s absence, Rahul added a 99-run partnership along with Kohli (45). Their second-wicket partnership came in a chase of 204 runs. Before New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi removed him in the 10th over, Rahul scored 56. His runs came off only 27 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.

Although India lost some quick wickets, it was Shreyas Iyer’s quickfire fifty which took the side to the finish line. He smashed an unbeaten 58 off 29 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. His knock helped India to register a convincing six-wicket victory over New Zealand.

Earlier, New Zealand posted a huge competitive total of 203 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. They put up the score on the back of individual half-centuries from Colin Munro (59), Ross Taylor (54*) and captain Kane Williamson (51).
