India’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli is a big fan of Test cricket. Kohli has a soft corner for the longest format of the game as he often speaks highly of the same. Moreover, he is regarded as one of the most successful Test captains of the Indian cricket team. Under his leadership, India was ranked as the number 1 test team in the ICC’s list from October 2016 to April 2020.
Virat Kohli has so far represented India in 86 since his debut in 2011. He has managed to score 7,240 runs at an average of 53.62. Kohli is also ranked at 2nd in the ICC’s list of test batsmen after Australian batsman Steve Smith. There have been many instances in the past, many Virat has been vocal about his love for the traditional format of the game.
On Wednesday (June 24), Indian skipper again expressed his admiration for Test cricket through an Instagram post. Posting a picture of himself in the white jersey on his official Instagram handle, Virat wrote, “Nothing comes close to playing an intense game in whites. What a blessing to be able to play Test cricket for India,”
Recently, veteran cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar had compared Virat Kohli with the legendary batsman Viv Richards. Sunil had said that Virat is just like Viv Richards as they both share a common batting style. Also both wish to score more and more runs for their country.
On Star Sports show ‘Winning the Cup – 1983′, Gavaskar quoted, “It was very difficult to keep Viv Richards quiet when he was at the crease. Similarly, if you look at Virat Kohli’s batting today, in the same ball and same line, he will use his top hand and score a boundary towards the extra cover region and will use the bottom hand and score a boundary towards the mid-on and mid-wicket region.”
The former Indian captain added, “That’s why Virat Kohli is considered as the No. 1 player because he bats exactly like Viv Richards. Earlier, Gundappa Vishwanath, VVS Laxman used to bat like this,”
