Ever since Caitlin Clark has stepped foot in the WNBA, comparisons to her college rival Angel Reese have followed. The same statement could be made from the Chicago Sky player’s perspective, but the point would remain. These two can never escape fans and pundits judging one by the progress of the other. And yet, a former ESPN analyst has a simple solution to settle this rivalry.
Remember the iconic 1994 McDonald’s commercial from 1994 featuring two of the greatest NBA players of all time? Michele Tafoya sat down with ‘OutKick’ to comment on the situation. “I had a great, great idea, and it might help unify America and it might help sell a ton of Big Macs. Here’s my idea – McDonald’s should get Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese for a commercial where they play horses. Just like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird did. One of the greatest commercials in television history, where they play horse.”
This was a time before athlete endorsements became what they are today. And while Johnson was big on them to earn big off the court as well, Bird was never interested.

“‘Nothing but net’ is the line that everyone remembers from that. Get these two women together,” Tafoya continues. “McDonald’s, get their agents on the phone, set up the game of horse, nothing but net. New commercial, you will sell out McShakes or whatever you want.”

No one can forget Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s famous NIL deals from their NCAA days. So what’s one more deal with a food giant right? But while the Fever rookie could come into the mix, it might be difficult for the Sky forward.

Unlike Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese already has a Raising Cane deal to look to
In June 2024, the Sky rookie had some big news – Raising Cane had been officially named the WNBA team’s sponsor. It was an added element to the deal that already existed between Angel Reese and the brand from her LSU days! Now labeled the “Official Chicken Finger of the Chicago Sky” as well as the premier partner of the Chicago Sky Basketball Academy, the fast-food chain already holds a monopoly in the ‘Windy City’. Not to mention, the former Lady Tiger as well.

While Reese wouldn’t be the first or the last athlete to endorse two names (rivals) from the same business, the feat seems impossible as of now. While Caitlin Clark could do it separately, the entire premise of ending the apparent rivalry won’t hold.
