Wozniacki: “You just have to be positive”

The reigning Australian Open Champion, Caroline Wozniacki had a prosperous year professionally.  She detached the Slam-less World Number one title, which was associated with her for a long time in her career. Also, she retrieved to the summit of tennis since the year 2012. However, the Dane dealt with some adversities off the court. Wozniacki was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the month of August this year. It is autoimmune arthritis when the immune system does not function properly. It causes pain and swelling in the wrist and small joints of the hand and feet. She disclosed about the disorder in her immune system at the WTA Finals in Singapore after her last round-robin match. Where she lost to Elina Svitolina.

Despite her illness, Wozniacki decides to continue to defend on the WTA circuit.  She commences her 2019 season in Aukland. “I have to be honest, I think after Wimbledon I wasn’t feeling well”, admitted Wozniacki. “I thought it was just the flu and [went] to Washington. Knees are hurting, my leg is hurting. I wake up and I can’t lift my arms… I go to the doctor and they tell me everything is fine. And then I’m like I know that I’m not fine”. Despite being diagnosed with RA, she went on to win the title in Beijing this year.

There’s no point in whining when some obstruction like this bounces upon you. The only solution is to accept the mishappening and optimistically strive to set it right. Embracing it with an affirm mind Wozniacki said,  “You just have to be positive and work with it, and there are ways that you can feel better so that’s great.  So it’s been a great year. I won my first Slam. I won in Beijing and in Eastbourne, and I think I can be proud of just the way that I have handled adversity and I have handled a lot of things this year. It’s definitely been a tough year. I think it’s been really difficult because I think there is a lot of things going on and you just have to keep grinding”.

Wozniacki spent her off-season with her fiancé, David Lee. They were vacationing in the Maldives, a trip to Italy, a basketball game in New York. She also made an appearance at the Necker Cup. Also, she will be ranked number three in the world when she will open her 2019 season.
