The epic showdown between the LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes has already created a lot of debate regarding a controversial gesture made by an NCAA women’s basketball player. Louisiana State University’s star, Angel Reese, has received a lot of flak from the sporting community after she pulled off a taunting gesture towards her opponent during their remarkable championship victory. Amid all the flak, it is the husband of Serena Williams who recently came forward to defend Reese’s actions. In doing so, Alexis Ohanian brought to light the name of another athlete from their college, Joe Burrow, who performed similar antics during his match. Later, the co-founder of Dogecoin, Shibetoshi Nakamoto, also joined Ohanian to call it an act of hypocrisy.

The finals of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament have become a hugely contentious topic for the entire sporting community due to a “disrespectful” gesture. It was the LSU star, Angel Reese, who made a “you can’t see me” taunting action in front of her opponent, Caitlin Clark’s face. The Iowa Hawkeyes player previously made a similar gesture toward a rival player in the initial rounds of the NCAA tournament.

However, it is Reese who is getting criticized for the same as she is being labeled as “classless” by a number of fans and pundits. Her actions have already sparked a lot of debate in the entire baseball community on Twitter. Some of the users have bashed her while others have supported the same, as they simply call it hypocrisy.

Even Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian has used his platform to defend Reese’s actions during the championship match. In the process, the American internet entrepreneur brought to light a similar gesture pulled off the American quarterback, Joe Burrow. For his taunting actions, Burrow hardly faced any backlash from the fans. Notably, Ohanian said, “I trust everyone who’s mad about this today was just as mad when it was @JoeyB doing it. Right?”

Later, the co-founder of Dogecoin, Shibetoshi Nakamoto, also came across his tweet and called out the “hypocrisy” of fans. He commented, “oh yeah totally, absolutely no hypocrisy present at all”

Ohanian recently shed light on the lack of equipment for female players

This is not the first time when the Reddit co-founder has used his platform to defend female athletes. Ohanian was quite vocal about the disparities and negligences that were shown by the NCAA authorities toward women basketball players. Serena Williams’ husband took to Twitter to shed light on the female equipment room fiasco as he slammed the tournament officials for not providing proper facilities.
