The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion has never shied away from taking her stand. Recently, Navratilova stumbled upon a political debate about the true state and definition of democracy. In response, she had a few things to say and a few names to call out.

Martina Navratilova weighs in on a serious matter
Regarding the current American President Joe Biden’s allegations on predecessor Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans, Navratilova expressed her views. Biden accused Trump of rupturing democracy and the veteran singing in the same tune wrote, “Trump fractured our country. It will take a long time to put it back together.”

Thereafter, she added, “Magats need to decide what’s more important- being a Magat or being a patriot- because those two things are mutually exclusive.” The former World no.1 has always been vocal about matters of social concern and her words hold value. However, it wasn’t the same back in the day. She has earned the respect by acing her sport and showing her worth as an American citizen.
Navratilova faced serious atrocities while trying to adjust to the western culture. The locals dragged her for being a complaining and ungrateful settler. Though in her defense, she was fairly new to the atmosphere and was too young to understand the intricacies of dealing with fans’ emotions.

The Czech-American debuted in the year 1974 and claimed a total of 59 Grand Slam trophies. Her first major singles win came on the grass-courts of London. Navratilova claimed her first out of 9 Wimbledon titles in the year 1978 and in the same year she was crowned World no.1.
She held the ranking for a record 332 weeks, which is only second to the 22 times Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf’s record. Further, the 65-year-old had an outstanding rivalry with the seven-time French Open champion Chris Evert.
