Behind the success of any child, there is an unwavering support and sacrifice of parents involved. American tennis star, Danielle Collins, is no exception. Early on in her career, her father made huge sacrifices so that she could pursue her dream. It eventually led her to become one of the best players in her country. However, Collins’ parents are not often seen during her matches of late. Recently, the American star expressed her displeasure when asked about this matter.

Collins has finally found her feet going this year. She has reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Open and looks in good touch. Let’s find out what she had to say about her parents’ absence.

Danielle Collins doesn’t appreciate narratives surrounding her parents’ absence

The 30-year-old stopped by for a brief interview after her thumping round of 16 win over Sorana Cirstea. During the conversation, the interviewer brought up the topic of Collins’ parents not making it to the tournament in Miami. Collins mentioned, “I had a rough go for a few years there just recording on everything in my personal life and you know I’m sick of that and at this point, I don’t really appreciate.”

Further, she went on to add, “Like sometimes the narratives that we get drawn into and you know a lot of really positive interactions previously with my boss and a lot of great people supporting me and unfortunately sometimes the way things happen on or the way things seem to appear get kind of a yeah like a mold story and then yeah so we’re just trying to eliminate the drama.”

However, her parents’ absence doesn’t seem to affect Collins in Miami. With the support of the home crowd, the American tennis star has won the last three matches in straight sets and has now reached the last eight.

Meanwhile, Collins has been quite outspoken about her parents’ sacrifices to let her pursue her tennis career. Recently, she highlighted her father’s contribution to the same.

Collins makes an emotional revelation about her father

Similar to many great players, Danielle Collins was also accompanied by her father at practice sessions during her childhood days. They used to start those sessions early in the morning.

Highlighting this aspect, Collins revealed, “I think about it a lot with my dad like 85 years old now he had me a lot later in life and my dad used to get up with me at like 5: in the morning and we would go and practice. Who does that? It’s like pretty amazing, especially at that age.”

Their immense dedication has indeed borne fruit. The American tennis star has had a wonderful tennis career and she would love to add the 2024 Miami Open title to her glittering trophy cabinet.
