Dabrowski started playing tennis at the age of nine

Gabriela Dabrowski was not introduced to tennis in the same way that many players are. The majority picked up a racket because they were raised around the game by parents or siblings who were players. But this was not the case with her. “I started tennis on my own when I was seven. No one in my family played,”  she once said in an interview.

When asked about when she started playing tennis, she replied, “It’s sort of difficult to pinpoint an exact moment when I decided to pursue tennis as a career. I really feel like I’ve been ‘working’ since I was nine years old. I did know from a pretty young age that tennis was going to be the path I’d take.”
