“Never Played Basketball to Make Money”: Serena Williams Cites Michael Jordan’s Example to Inspire Young Athletes

After an incredible performance at the French Open 2021, Serena Williams will now train herself for the upcoming grass-court season. While she is not playing any lead-up tournaments before the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, she is currently practicing at the Mouratoglou Academy in France.

Recently, a batch of Mouratoglou Academy’s students graduated. There was a big ceremony for the same and Serena Williams gave a beautiful speech to inspire the junior tennis players. She first mentioned that it is really important to enjoy the sport.

“It doesn’t matter whether you are off to being a doctor or a rocket scientist, a tennis player, whatever you do, I found out that if you enjoy it, you are really good at it,” said Williams in her speech.

Serena even took the example of basketball legend Michael Jordan in her speech. Jordan, the legendary basketball player who won six NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls is an inspiration to one-to-many superstars.

“I think of Michael Jordan and that guy never played basketball, to like, make money. But he played because he loved what he did,” added the former World No.1 player.

Serena further emphasized that Jordan’s passion for his sport was visible to everyone who watched him play. As a result, she advised the young players of the Mouratoglou Academy to take lessons from him in order to achieve success in their careers.

“You could see the passion that he had when he was out there. He absolutely enjoyed every minute of that. So, I would definitely say that’s one thing that you wanna take with you is enjoy what you do and that is one way that you’ll able to find success,” concluded Williams.
