The tennis world is down to the last eight at the traditionally inaugural clay-court tournament, the Volvo Car Open 2021. On the one side, is the supremely talented American teenager, Coco Gauff, and on the other side, the Tunisian powerhouse, Ons Jabeur.

While Gauff is bidding for her second semi-final of 2021 in this match, Jabeur is looking for her first. Also, both of them have deservedly reached this stage on the backs of their consistency and confidence.

The American steered past Tsvetana Pironkova, Ludmilla Samsonova, and compatriot Lauren Davis to meet World No. 28, Ons Jabeur. Similarly, the Tunisian defeated Martina Trevisan, Hailey Baptiste, Alize Cornet to reach her first quarterfinal of 2021.

Logically, the 26-year-old will start as the favorite, but no one can underestimate the 17-year-old Coco Gauff.

Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur: Head-to-Head

Previously, the duo has played twice against one another, where the American has won both times. Coco got the better of Ons in the 2020 Top Seed quarterfinals and the 2020 Italian Open Round of 32.

Thus, the Tunisian will be even more driven to win her first against the young wonder. But can she do it?

Gauff vs Jabeur: Prediction

Both have played exceptionally well throughout the season so far, but Coco and Ons have both failed time and again against more experienced players on the women’s tour. In that matter, the twelfth seed Jabeur will carry an upper hand in the match.

However, she will need to get a notable first-serve percentage and stay mindfully active during the match. If she manages to do so and has consistent returns, the American teenager is bound to make unforced errors.

This is easier said than done, as Coco will go all-out with her aggressive game against the veteran player. Moreover, her endurance against Ons’ craft would be the crucial distinguishing factor in this encounter.

The match could go either way, as neither player will want to lose at this stage. But the one that fights harder will stay another day in Charleston, South Carolina.
