The tennis community joined forces in recent weeks to contribute towards an important cause. They have been showcasing their everyday skills with a slight twist by contributing to the development of the underprivileged. Eugenie Bouchard contributed to the ‘Mess Free’ challenge recently, practicing with a taco in her hand.
Bouchard played a few forehands, holding a taco in the other. The challenge is to execute a rally without spilling the food in the other hand.
Bouchard vowed to donate 10,000 meal kits to Canadian families and up to 10,000 more for every share of her video on Instagram playing ‘taco tennis’. She further nominated Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin to take up the challenge.
Olympic champion Monica Puig nominated Bouchard for the challenge. Puig was nominated by Indian doubles legend Leander Paes. Most players taking up the challenge donated a substantial number of meal kits in their respective countries.
The challenge was started by the Nick Kyrgios Foundation and food brand ‘Old El Paso’ in Australia. Kyrgios even played a trick shot while holding a taco in his left hand. Andy Murray soon took it up as well. Kyrgios’ foundation and the brand donated 10,000 meal kits to Food Bank Australia.
On the tennis front, Bouchard is on an upward rise. Her comeback after the resumption of the Tour started with a quarter-final appearance at the Prague Open.
Bouchard then reached the final of the Istanbul Open. There, she lost a thriller to Patricia Maria Tig in a final set tie-break. At the French Open 2020, she lost in the third round to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. She resumed the Tour, languishing below 300 in the WTA rankings. The Canadian star soon reached World No. 139.
