The CM Punk and The Elite saga is refusing to die down. The group added further fuel to the fire by mocking the ‘injured’ wrestler in the latest installment of AEW Dynamite. The trio of Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson were competing in the ongoing best-of-seven series for the trios’ championship against Death Triangle. Although The Elite ended up on the losing side, their antics during the match turned a lot of heads.

The show was notably held at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago which is the hometown of Punk. And the eccentric faction did not miss any chance to take a shot at the suspended wrestler.

From Kenny Omega using Punk’s trademark move GTS to Jackson replicating Punk’s botched attempt at buckshot lariat, the match was filled with many such references. Omega even surprised the watching audience by biting Pac on his arm. And it was impossible to overlook the striking resemblance with the infamous ‘Bite Fight’ of 1997. The controversial boxer Mike Tyson was in the eye of the storm when he bit his opponent Evander Hollyfield’s ear during a bout for the WBA Heavyweight title.

The ‘infamous’ incident between CM Punk and The Elite

The beef was initiated by Punk when after winning the AEW World Championship at the All Out event, he took a dig at The Elite in the media scrum. The comments made by ‘The Voice of The Voiceless’ didn’t sit well with the trio as they confronted him backstage. This led to a brawl between the two parties and wrestler Ace Steel was also said to be involved in the bust-up. Steel reportedly bit Omega on the arm during the ruckus, and The Cleaner’s recent action on Dynamite was a subtle re-enactment of events that fateful night.

Everyone involved in the backstage drama was punished and suspended for their actions. The Elite who also serve as the Executive Vice Presidents for AEW recently returned at the Full Gear PPV. CM Punk has not been seen in an AEW ring since the infamous incident. However, he has appeared as a color commentator for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
