WWE is a company that focuses a lot on entertainment alongside wrestling for the vast fandom. Because of this, some fans might cheer for rival companies like AEW that deliver hard-hitting action as well as campy characters. But the action comes at a great price, and AEW’s top star, Adam Cole, knows that pretty clearly now.

There are reports that a championship match on AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door didn’t go the way it should have. The result was supposed to be the same, but the finish was altered because Adam Cole suffered an injury in the match.

The IWGP World Championship match’s weird ending

In a fatal four-way match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, Adam Cole’s shoulder popped off while attempting a move. In the last few moments of the match, Kazuchika Okada spun Cole for his signature move, Rainmaker. But Cole ducked to evade the move and fell down to the corner of the ring, which cautioned everyone in the ring.

Later, Jay White performed his signature move, Blade Runner, to Okada. Then he went straight to his best friend and pinned him to retain the title. However, that pin was weird, as Cole moved at the last second, but the referee counted 3 to give the victory to White.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported the news on Twitter, “Yeah needless to say, that wasn’t how the finish was supposed to go. Hope Adam Cole heals up soon”.

While the injury cut this match short, it was an amazing spectacle, watching so many wrestling styles clashing. We hope Adam Cole can recover soon from this and return to AEW Dynamite.

Lately, AEW has a lot of its stars sitting on the benches because of injuries. The most prominent amongst them is the AEW World Champion, CM Punk. He fought a valiant battle against Adam ‘Hangman’ Page, but the Chicago-resident had to take time off after winning the title.

Another ex-WWE talent who is on the bench, Daniel Bryan, upset fans by breaking the news himself on Dynamite. While Bryan was supposed to fight Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door and a Blood and Guts match against the Jericho Appreciation Society, he has passed down that job to another ex-WWE star who made his return last night.
