With weeks away from WrestleMania XL, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson began using the moniker of ‘Final Boss.’ First, he spouted it during his showdown on SmackDown with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, and fans seemingly liked the title. Despite it having an underlying meaning that the WWE Universe has been trying to decipher, The Rock is the Final Boss. However, Tony Khan and AEW decided to jump on this trend with new merch on the AEW Shop.

Unfortunately, the urgency with which AEW and Tony Khan jumped on the bandwagon has left fans with a sour taste in their mouth. They were hence quick to take their disappointment to social media, and they aren’t merry about it.

Currently, the pro wrestling world is buzzing with WrestleMania XL, which is just a week away. The biggest talk of the town is Dwayne Johnson and Cody Rhodes. Their feud has shaken up the wrestling industry. Naturally, everyone wants a piece of action, and Tony Khan and AEW have found a way to be part of it. Taking to social media, AEW announced new merchandise for the AEW World Champion, Samoa Joe.

While the new merchandise for Joe seemed fine, there were three words on the new line of t-shirts that fans did not like. On the front, AEW mentioned Joe as ‘The Final Boss.’ The whole wrestling industry has been talking about that term in regards to The Rock. Seeing AEW use it for Samoa Joe, fans had a lot to say on social media. The overall reaction to the new merch was negative.

This would not be the first time AEW and Khan tried to capitalize on something the WWE was doing. But, like always, the fans have called them out on social media. Only time will tell if Khan reacts to this backlash.

Fans call for ‘The Rock’ to intervene

As mentioned above, the reaction to this merch release was negative. Fans immediately called out Khan and AEW for jumping on the bandwagon of The Rock. Here are some of the top fan reactions to the merch news.

Some fans were surprised by this move AEW and Tony Khan pulled. While Joe has been a force, using the same moniker as The Rock was unexpected.

While many would believe that Joe comes from the same lineage as Dwayne Johnson or Roman Reigns, he was born into a family that operated a Polynesian dance troupe named Tiare Productions.

This move has confused fans about how many final bosses are in wrestling. While the moniker can be used by different promotions, the use of it so quickly can get confusing.

Many fans saw this as a joke. While the moniker fits Joe, its use after The Rock feels out of place.

Fans want The Rock to cut a promo on AEW and roast them as he does Cody Rhodes or Seth Rollins.

While Joe is an incredible heel, his build-up in AEW has left fans wanting more. Had AEW built up Joe as he was in TNA, the title would have fit.
