CM Punk is in a bit of a hot mess lately. The former WWE star was a part of AEW for a significant while. However, the promotion released him due to a backstage altercation at AEW All-In 2023. Following this, Tony Khan claimed that he felt threatened by him before issuing a contract termination notice on September 2nd. Since then, the star has not played a part in any pro wrestling promotion or independent circuits. But still looks like he has a grasp on the fans of the sport. Recently on a list, Punk swiftly moved ahead of big names such as John Cena. Moreover, he occupies the top spot.

CM Punk reigns at the top

Recently a list was issued by Wrestle Features that provides accurate stats about pro wrestling. The list was about the top 5 most streamed WWE entry songs on Spotify. And on the top of the list was the Second City Saint’s entry music, ‘This Fire Burns’ with 84 million hits. Second on the list was Triple H, whose theme music, ‘The Game’ has 78 million hits. John Cena was third on the list, followed by Randy Orton who is fourth, and Dave Batista at the bottom of the top five.

While talking about entry music, CM Punk’s other entry song called ‘Cult of Personality’ had 130 million hits. From 2006 to 2011, Punk used This Fire Burns as his entry music. During his last three years at the Stamford-based promotion, he started using Cult of Personality which emerged as a throwback to his Ring of Honor days.

CM Punk is given credit for making his Ring of Honor a chartbuster. However, the song does not get a top spot on the list, as it is not owned under the WWE banner. The song is by the artist Living Colour, who operates as a rock band.

It happens to be one of the commendable feats achieved by Punk even though he has with the promotion for almost 9 years. However, this is not the only unusual feat he has achieved.

CM Punk being a record-breaker

Since his release from AEW, there has been a lot of speculation about his next move. While he was and is still a hot topic of discussion, he did AEW a favor. Even though he claims to have been absent from television for almost 8 months, he had the second-best sale of his merchandise at AEW. According to the list, he had 236 items in the top 10 daily from January 1 to November 4, 2023. Also, he has a reverse rank valuation of 32,669 on the list.

Considering he did not spend much time with AEW in 2023, his star power indeed generated great numbers. The star has proven once again that even though he might not be on television, somehow, he will end up becoming a part of the conversation. Just like how he is a topic of discussion currently at WWE. According to reports, there are talks going on about his return to his home ground. Maybe after seeing him sitting at the top of these lists, WWE higher-ups might consider hiring him soon. Do you think these lists will have a positive impact on his next ‘endeavor’?

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let’s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
