Messing up while selling an angle is never foreign to Tony Khan. The way Khan scripted the moves on stage sometimes came out as very frivolous and artificial. The AEW talents often either oversell or undersell their angles, drawing direct criticism toward their boss and his approach. Something similar happened on Dynamite last night where Toni Storm clashed with Saraya ahead of her big title defense match with Mariah May at All In this Sunday.
‘Timeless’ Toni Storm retained her title but ended up receiving a grainy treatment from her upcoming All In opponent, Mariah May. However, the segment, which featured a dramatic shoe strike, has been labeled as overhyped by a former WWE official.

Mariah May, the sensational AEW lady has been having all the spotlight on her ever since beginning her quest for the AEW Women’s World Championship. May recently turned on mentor, Toni Storm, in a brutal segment. The segment was so devastating that it left the champion in a sorrowful state. However, May’s relentless pursuit of the title continued as she interrupted Storm’s post-match celebration by delivering a harsh kick with her boots. In a bizarre twist, the former model briefly embraced Storm before leaving her on the mat once again.
Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas didn’t hold back his disdain for the segment. In a sarcastic tweet, he criticized both AEW and the talent involved, suggesting that the move was vastly overdone.
Appears a shoe is more devastating than a Piledriver, DDT, Canadian Destroyer, Twisting Burning 450 Hammer Phoenix Splash etc, etc etc…..

“Appears a shoe is more devastating than a Piledriver, DDT, Canadian Destroyer, Twisting Burning 450 Hammer Phoenix Splash etc, etc etc…..,” Korderas wrote in his critique. Despite the criticism, Tony Khan shows no signs of dialing back the dramatic flair as AEW gears up for its flagship event, All In.
Tony Khan is aiming to break a record at All In 2025
The AEW head honcho successfully executed two years of blockbuster AEW All In at Wembley, London. This year’s edition is yet to bring plenty of surprises to our screen, but even before that, Khan is advancing with the year 2025.
The wrestling mogul already noted that for AEW the year 2025 and the rest of 2024 will be very crucial both in the business strategy and creative expansion ground.
