The CM Punk-AEW issue was reaching a new realm of tension with all the latest happenings when Tony Khan decided to step up. Ever since the inception of AEW, Tony Khan has maintained a good relationship with all of his employees.

However, after the latest developments with CM Punk and the roster, Khan decided it was enough, and went ahead to terminate Punk from his contract. This bold decision of the AEW president brought in major praise from all around the wrestling fraternity, including this 56-year-old wrestling veteran.

Which WWE legend’s respect did Tony Khan earn after firing CM Punk?

After AEW All In 2023, CM Punk was fired by AEW President Tony Khan during AEW’s Collision show in Chicago. Firing Punk in his hometown of Chicago called for strong guts, and a WWE legend praised Khan for this.

WWE Veteran Jeff Jarrett addressed this situation and spoke about Khan firing Punk in Chicago.

 

He said, “Getting in front of things, with a clear-cut decision made, absolutely was the right thing to do. It’s best for business. Your consumers were informed. I just don’t think there are downsides to that.”

AEW hired Punk in 2021 and he maintained a main-event status with the company even before his contract termination. However, despite being a top name, Punk always got caught in trouble with the roster backstage.

With Punk now a free agent, is it possible that fans see him in WWE soon? Possibly at Royal Rumble? Recently, WWE legend Booker T. also addressed this situation and spoke about how Tony Khan took the ultimate tough decision and fired someone he was friends with.

What did Booker T claim about Tony Khan firing CM Punk?

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently spoke about CM Punk’s firing on his podcast. He would claim how tough it is to go through the ordeal of firing someone, you are good friends with. He would then jokingly suggest himself up for that role.

Booker T said, “Tony Khan should’ve stepped in a little bit earlier, put his foot down. If Tony Khan can’t do it, he should hire someone that can do it. It’s hard being the bad guy.” The retired wrestler believed that Khan should have stepped up a long time ago. However, nevertheless, he did step up, and took action against what is believed was needed long ago.
