It’s pretty rare for Tony Khan to receive praise for his booking decisions. Even after the epic AEW Heavyweight World Championship changed hands, with Swerve Strickland being the new claimant, some wrestling veterans heavily criticized Khan for some inadequacies. The AEW head honcho has also garnered unwanted attention by picking fights with his rivals and other talents.

However, a former AEW star chose to go against the grain and appreciated the AEW president and Perry for his efficient booking of the star’s comeback after a 7-month hiatus.

Jack Perry has been in the limelight since his infamous alteration with CM Punk during the All In PPV in September. The chain of events altered the landscape of pro wrestling permanently. Ever since then, the 26-year-old has been absent from the ring because of a prolonged suspension. Perry, in the meantime, dipped his feet in NJPW until Khan brought him to the fore during AEW Dynasty. Perry appeared as a mysterious figure and assisted the Young Bucks in winning the AEW World Tag Team Championships against FTR. He then made an irrevocable impact once again by attacking his boss, Tony Khan, last night on Dynamite. Matt Hardy has seen it all and has been in awe of it.

Appearing on the latest episode of the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the 49-year-old noted, ‘‘ The Jack Perry return, I thought, was done so well. I thought it was done so well.I loved how it was set up, how it looks like it was a, you know, a jumper who, a fan who came in and like tried to shove down the deal. I loved how security was on him immediately. And the shot and the reveal when they pulled the Sting mask off, and he had that s**t-eaten grin on that was just that perfection.

The former WWE star continued, “That was so good. And the crowd’s reaction to him was really good as well. And I think you’ve got something very special now with Jack Perry back, especially aligned with The Young Bucks, all as heels.” Despite expressing his adulation for how Jack Perry’s return was handled, the former AEW star remarked on how he didn’t get the same privilege during his stint.

Matt Hardy made his AEW debut in March 2020, with his brother Jeff Hardy following suit two years later. However, the elder Hardy isn’t at all pleased about their usage in the Jacksonville-based promotion all these years. Despite reverting to his highly successful ‘Broken Matt Hardy gimmick’ the superstar failed to catch a second wind of momentum upon his debut in AEW. His alliance with Private Party also didn’t resonate with the audiences and AEW’s bid to elevate the young tag team fell flat. Last year, during another episode of the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, The Destroyer admitted feeling immense frustration about his lackluster AEW booking.

Hardy has only wrestled sporadically since then and soon enough his contract expired. Murmurs of a return to WWE garnered pace during WrestleMania season. However, a short contract extension put an end to those rumors. Alas, now he has entered free agency and all the doors are now open for a new start. The former ECW champion would not want Perry to experience the same lull that he faced in AEW after a promising start. And it looks like Perry’s story could garner traction with an attack on the boss according to Hardy himself.  What’s your take on Matt Hardy praising Tony Khan’s Jack Perry booking in the AEW Dynasty?
