AEW is bringing back its weekly ranking system. AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that the rankings would return, a move that is thought to be related to his online feud with some WWE legends and fans for what he thought was selective outrage toward booking decisions.

In the early days of AEW, a ranking system was used to determine the top contenders for the AEW world, women’s, and tag team championships. It was perfectly in line with its sports-based presentation. However, it vanished in the last months of 2022. Fans who enjoyed the statistics will now have something new to look at each week. In a recent revelation, we found out that CM Punk played a pivotal part in its disappearance in the first place. And fans are not happy.

It is a well-known fact that CM Punk wielded considerable power behind the scenes at AEW. This included the AEW rankings, which disappeared during his employment with the organization. Bryan Alvarez made an important revelation. Alvarez said that he was told that it was Punk’s plan to remove the rankings. He supposedly had a conversation with Tony Khan about them, and then they vanished. He said, “These f**king rankings. Do you know whose idea it was to get rid of the rankings? I was told it was CM Punk. He talked Tony into getting rid of the rankings.”

The former AEW star also had a say in whom to select for the AEW Collision. He had a say in who AEW signed on for the event and could also prohibit pro wrestlers from the company’s Saturday night show. This is why the Collision roster was stacked with his pals, a trend that continued until his AEW dismissal.
