“Respect”, “You’re a Legend”: Top AEW Stars React to Dolph Ziggler’s WWE Release Amid Rumors of Jumping Ships

As of this moment, all wrestling aficionados can talk about is WWE laying off its talent. After the $21.4 billion deal forming TKO Group Holdings, WWE started releasing many of its employees. The number of released employees has crossed over a hundred people, among which many have been recently revealed to be wrestling talents.

Dolph Ziggler comes out at the top as he is the most prominent among all the stars that had been released lately. Reacting to his abrupt WWE career end, many top wrestlers in AEW dropped comments on X (formerly Twitter), amidst rumors of him joining AEW.

Ziggler was loyal to the Stamford-based promotion for 19 years. In those 19 years, he wrestled in a total of 1,554 amazing matches within the WWE ring. He had won the World Heavyweight Championship twice, the NXT Championship once, and the Tag Team Championship four times in his career.

The title that he won the most in WWE was the Intercontinental Championship, which he held six times in his WWE career. In addition, he was also the winner of the 2012 Money in the Bank ladder match.

With so many accolades under his belt, he has surely etched his name into the history of WWE. That is why many people in the wrestling business respect him. And why his release has shocked many others.

There is no doubt that Ziggler has been an important part of WWE. Many of his WWE friends are going to miss him when he is gone, and they even tweeted about it. Not only that, wrestling stars from WWE’s rival promotion, AEW< reacted to WWE laying off such a talented wrestler.

Renee Paquette summed up her feelings in one word and wrote this:

Similarly, many other AEW personalities decided to hit the legendary wrestler up.

Shawn Spears acknowledged Ziggler for the incredible wrestler he is. Moreover, with Ziggler no longer in WWE anymore, he asked him to wrestle him, showing his interest in standing toe-to-toe with the WWE veteran.

Swerve Strickland dropped a cryptic message on Twitter saying, “Nemeth” which is Ziggler’s real last name.

Dustin Rhodes, who had departed from WWE in 2019 for AEW, also paid his respects to the wrestler.

 

CJ Perry got a little emotional while drafting her tweet. She thanked Ziggler for teaching her so much when she was in WWE. Perry (fka Lana in WWE) had a storyline with the released star in mid-2015. Rusev (aka Miro), Ziggler, and her were involved in an on-screen love triangle.

Maria Kanellis, who is also signed on to AEW after a career at WWE, took to social media to congratulate Ziggler on an amazing run.

Ziggler is rumored to jump ship post his WWE release. Even his brother sort of teased his arrival in WWE’s rival promotion recently. However, this has not been confirmed yet.
