AEW sometimes can be full of surprises. Fans have seen many familiar faces in the past such as Edge, Dean Ambrose, who now goes by Jon Moxley, and many others. However, the promotion has become a hot topic due to rumors about Sasha Banks and Kazuchika Okada, a former WWE star who has returned to AEW after a long time.

A champion graces the AEW stage

Tonight both Adam Page and Swerver Strickland were going to select contenders for each other for rankings. This will help pave the way to challenge the current champion, Samoa Joe in the future. While Strickland chose Tao Liona for Page, surprisingly he got the shorter end of the stick when Rob Van Dam was selected as the opponent for Strickland.

The former WWE champion proved dominant as soon as he entered the ring. Van Dam did not waste any time and attacked Strickland with a steel chair. He also performed his signature, The Van Daminator when the two went outside the ring during the match. However, RVD ended up losing the match against Strickland.

Interestingly, this was not the first time that the former WWE star had made an appearance at AEW.  The wrestling faithful took kindly to his debut for the promotion back in August 2023. AEW head honcho Tony Khan also expressed his willingness to bring back RVD to AEW following his slew of appearances. And it appears that has come to fruition with his latest appearance.

RVD’s appearances on the AEW programming have been very scarce. It was announced back in September 2023 that the star would be returning to AEW. However, details such as date and opponent were not revealed. Many believe that Tony Khan did this out of desperation as Dwayne Johnson had just returned to WWE during the same time. But it looks like his relationship with his former employer has turned a bit rough.

In an interview, he stated that he was booked by a major wrestling promotion to perform at Philidelphia. The further details that he provided matched with that of WrestleMania 40. However, he did not take any names. After saying that, he stated that he received a call from the same company informing him that he was “un-booked” for the said Phiukideplhia event.

While he was still trying to process this, he stated that he received another call 30 minutes later asking him to perform at Philadelphia on the same day and at the same time. While he did not reveal the name of the second company, he did drop a hint at AEW. Do you think Rob Van Dam will soon become a regular at AEW?

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let?s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
