Sasha Banks aka Mercedes Mone cut ties with WWE last year in May. She then started a new pro wrestling journey in Japan in January 2023. Her new adventure in the east was yielding fruitful results as she became IWGP Women’s Champion a month after her arrival in NJPW. She dethroned Kairi to take up the new champ spot.

She was looking to add yet another accolade under her belt. But her recent ankle injury ruined her plans. This injury has put a halt on her pro wrestling journey as she is out of action to heal herself. Speculations all over the internet state that after the recovery, she could make an AEW debut.

Speaking on this matter, the current AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm warned her to stay away from the Jacksonville-based promotion.

To this, she replied, “I don’t know about the group, I don’t know if she’s Outcast material, but I’ll whoop her ass as well, break her other foot. That would be good.” By her statement, it was pretty much clear that she is not a fan of ‘The CEO’.

With the Forbidden Door PPV approaching near, fans were hoping to see Banks in AEW. However, her injury makes it very unlikely that she will compete in the event.

Mercedes Mone was looking to become the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship at NJPW Resurgence. And to do that, she had to defeat Willow Nightingale at the PPV. However, during the match, she suffered an ankle injury while performing a maneuver from the top of the ring post. Thus, the injury caused her a new title.

As per some reports, the Japan-based promotion specially created a new title for her. She was supposed to be the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. But because of her injury, NPJW had to change the plans midway through the match and crown Nightingale as the new champ.
