Disney’ Moana was domestically released on November 23, 2016, and saw the second highest-grossing Thanksgiving holiday opening ever. Thanks to the substantial start of Moana film in Japan in the first week.

This film made more money than ever, which was astonishing. Even Dwayne Johnson could not believe the fans shared their love for Moana. The movie in which The Rock played the voice of demigod Maui received a 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Why did The Rock wanted to play “Maui’s” character in Moana film?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, in an exclusive interview with Female First, spoke about why he took the demigod Maui role in the film. Johnson wanted to be a part of Disney’s Moana because the “Aloha Spirit” culture was very meaningful and special to him. In addition, The Rock also mentioned why he was attracted to the character of Maui.

“There are multiple iterations. He is a shapeshifter, charismatic. He is larger than life. When you hear the mythology of Maui as kids, we were blown away by it. He is a fantastic character to play,” Johnson said.

According to Dwayne Johnson, the character of Maui was determined and similar to him. He really enjoyed working in this film, even as a voice-over. Well, after Disney’s Moana, the former WWE World Champion will also voice over in the 2022 DC’s League of Super-Pets.
