“Not Thinking of Us as a Product” : Ronda Rousey Once Opined on the Future of Retired MMA Fighters and Their Survival

Ronda Rousey is one of the greatest combat sports fighters in the industry. An Olympian, she found limelight and fame after rising up the ranks in UFC. She is regarded as one of the greatest UFC female fighters and is even a Hall of fame inductee.

The former Bantamweight champion is known for her aggressive and outspoken nature. She recently presented her opinion on one of the most debated current topics in the MMA world.

Currently, a proposed Californian MMA pension fund is in talks and is a way of providing pensions for some retired MMA fighters, in order to help them sustain well after they call it a day. The fund is on the same path as the pension fund for retired boxers.

The Baddest Woman on the Planet in an interview with ESPN spoke about it. She discussed the matter at length, and with facts. Rousey is a former MMA fighter and is aware of the plights that former fighters face. A pension is required for their survival, and if boxers are eligible for it, so must the MMA fighters.

What did Ronda Rousey claim about the Californian MMA Pension funds?

Speaking with ESPN, Rousey opined on the Californian MMA pension fund. She claimed she was shocked and encouraged to know that  people think about retired fighters. She further stated that it was the first time she felt that people were thinking about the fighters and not just the fight.

Rousey said, “This is the first time I’ve really felt that anyone is actually thinking about the fighters themselves, not just the fight, and actually cares about the people and not thinking of us as a product.” Rousey concluded that if the bill does not pass, she will be “extremely disappointed.”

Ronda Rousey is currently in a feud against Liv Morgan, and Tegan Nox. The duo of Rousey and Baszler are rumored to face the tag-team champions at WrestleMania 39. It is also highly rumored that at the end of the night, Rousey and Baszler might hold the gold.

What is the Californian MMA pension fund?

The Californian MMA pension fund is a proposal in the Californian legislature. It is a method of setting up pension funds for retired MMA fighters who have a certain number of fights under their name. The bill is very similar to the boxing pension fund.

The legislature was introduced on 15th February 2023, and many are hopeful it will be passed toward the end of this year.
