Andre the Giant’s Former Manager Once Left Kurt Angle Shell Shocked With an 8-Word Request, Which Was Eventually a Joke: ‘Are You Kidding Me’

Backstage stories of WWE always fascinate fans. It reveals a lot about wrestlers and their personal equation with one another. Sometimes it let the fans delve into the off-stage feuds and many a time it shows the never-seen-before persona of superstars. One such story is recently shared by Kurt Angle about his encounter with a late WWE legend. 

After one leaves for his heavenly aboard, what is left behind are the beautiful memories of that person. And revisiting those once in a while keeps the person alive in our memories. Thus, Angle shed light on a hilarious yet heart-touching story of a WWE legend, Bobby “The Brian” Heenan, who was also, André the Giant’s manager during his active years. 

Kurt Angle recalls an amusing memory of Bobby Heenan

Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic gold medalist recalled his one match that would go down in history as one of the best. It was from WrestleMania 21 where Angle faced Shawn Michaels for the very first time. And at the end, both of them received their share of standing ovations from the live crowd after a breathtaking match. 

The 27-minute long match finally ended with a submission by The Showstopper, resulting in Angle’s win. It was a favor that the former did on the latter. However, soon after the match, the winner received many congratulatory calls. One among them was by Bobby Heenan. 

Angle recalled, “He called me and said, ‘Hey, it’s Bobby “The Brian” Heenan, I just want to tell, you had a great match at WrestleMania’. I said, Thank you Bobby and he said, ‘Hey, can you get me a job in WWE?’”

To this out-of-the-blue question by the wrestling legend, Angle didn’t know how to react. He was pretty shocked and asked if it is any kind of joke. But Heenan was determined and held the joke for 2-3 minutes. 

However, he eventually ended it up and admitted that “I’m just kidding, I just want to tell you, your match with Shawn Michaels is the best match I’ve ever seen, honestly.”

Despite gaining much praise over the years, this massive compliment that Angle received still holds a place in his heart. And for Kurt Angle, it will always be a great memory to be complimented by a legend who had one of the great minds for the business.
