“Any Other Answer Is Wrong”: Despite Hulk Hogan’s Last Title Run, Most Fans Recall Brock Lesnar for This Era of the WWE Championship

The WWE Championship is the most coveted title in all of the WWE. If you have this belt around your waist, you are the top star. Over the years the WWE Championship has seen many changes and incarnations. But the one that has got embedded in the fans’ minds is the ‘WWE Undisputed Championship’ which existed between 2002 and 2005.

This belt was held by some of the top superstars during its tenure, but fans still associate it with just one star.

Hulk Hogan, Triple H, Kurt Angle , and others held the WWE Championship

The first wrestler to ever hold the WWE Undisputed Championship was ‘The Game’ Triple H in 2002. This belt was designed by tattoo artist Keith Ciaramello. The belt took some inspiration from the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and included a nameplate to signify who was the current champion.

The belt also had an eagle on top of the globe just like the previous two designs. The inner side plates had the McMahon family crest which was a lion holding a shield with the company logo. The name was changed from WWE Undisputed Championship to just WWE Championship in September 2002 as the championship became exclusive to SmackDown as then champion Brock Lesnar moved to exclusively to the brand.

Multiple superstars won this championship with the first obviously being Triple H in 2002 when the new design was introduced. Post ‘The Game’, Hulk Hogan held on to the championship for a short period of 28 days but some fans still associate The Hulkster with this belt. Heavyweights like The Rock, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Big Show, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, and finally JBL then wore the title.

Then finally in April 2005, after almost 4 years of being in existence, the belt design was changed when Cena became the champion. He introduced his own custom belt called the ‘Spinner Belt’ which Kurt Angle personally never approved.

But in spite of some of the legendary superstars winning the title in 4 years, most fans still associate just one name with it and that is Brock Lesnar.

Fans mostly mentioned Brock Lesnar when the WWE Undisputed Championship was shown

Certain WWE championships are synonymous with a particular wrestler. Like the WWE Spinner Belt which had John Cena written all over it. But when a picture of the WWE Undisputed Championship was shown and fans were asked “First wrestler that comes to mind that held this belt”, most of them said Brock Lesnar.

Someone at least mentioned Eddie Guerrero with Lesnar.

This one user listed his preference for each incarnation of the title.

One fan brought up the legendary rivalry between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar.

One fan who was born in the 80s clearly chose The Hulkster as his favourite.

This just goes to show how iconic ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar was and still is. Even though greats like The Rock and even Hulk Hogan held the belt, fans still mentioned Lesnar.
