Cody Rhodes’ reemergence as a credible wrestling superstar took him on a long journey away from WWE. During that same time, Rhodes revamped his entire presentation from his character, connecting with the audience and desire to rise to the top. All that led to Dusty Rhodes’ son becoming a pioneer of the wrestling business, much like his father.

However, a majority of fans have seen Cody Rhodes reach greater heights of success in WWE than in the company he started, AEW. But is it all that WWE gave him that AEW did not?

Cody Rhodes failed to impress the audience to a greater degree in WWE during his first stint. After leaving the promotion, Rhodes underwent a career resurgence on the independent circuit. This saw the ‘American Nightmare’ compete in various companies such as Ring of Honor, IMPACT, NJPW, and his own creation, AEW.

However, the interesting part of his entire journey in the outside world revolves around the same, yet vibrant entrance music he carried everywhere. Cody’s theme song “Kingdom” by Downstait became a piece of highly popular music. But it took nearly six years for the “Woah” part to gain a life of its own among the fans.

Moreover, the band lead singer Zack Call even disclosed that he had not written that part for Cody’s theme during an interview with Tom Campbell on Cultaholic Wrestling’s Desert Island Graps.

“The one part that I didn’t write in that song that will haunt me til the day I die is the big ‘woah’, which we did it on purpose to go back to all the Smoke and Mirrors stuff. “

While Cody used the same song in every promotion including AEW, it was the WWE universe that made it a thing. This was also pointed out by Chris Van Vliet in his recent post on Instagram.

Cody Rhodes’ entrance has been defined by this one trait

Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 as the mystery opponent of Seth Rollins. This was the first time WWE fans in attendance had the chance to do the “Woah.” However, as Van Vliet noted, it was not until mid-2022 that people really started to catch up with it and now, it has become a defining characteristic in The American Nightmare’s entrance and presentation.
