Cody Rhodes got the upper hand on Dominik Mysterio tonight. The American Nightmare pulled off a Cody Cutter before delivering Cross Rhodes to finish the spoiled son of Rey Mysterio. Dom’s fellow judgment member, Finn Balor, also received a massive blow from Seth Rollins who retained his coveted World Heavyweight Championship title after a highly dramatic bout.

After the end of the event, the post-show press conference saw Cody Rhodes weighing in on numerous topics. Rhodes was asked if he would like to end his story with the world heavyweight championship belt on his shoulder. What Rhodes had to say in reply certainly established him as a classy wrestler, and even a classier son, to say the least.

The 38-year-old has currently been in the middle of his grudge rivalry with Brock Lesnar. While he ended his business with The Judgement Day last night after building up the heat, the attention of his fanbase promptly shifted toward the fated finish of his story with The Beast Incarnate at SummerSlam. That said, neither of these petty rivalries was what Cody Rhodes set out for.

He was pretty clear with his aim behind jumping ship to the world’s biggest wrestling promotion last year from day one of his return. He is here to fulfill his late father, Dusty Rhodes, unaccomplished dream of bringing the WWE World Championship title home. Although the ablest son of the late legendary wrestler lost his first chance to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, he is willing to wait for his turn rather than settling his story with another substitute title, even if it holds the same honor.

During the media appearance last night, Rhodes noted, ”No. Winning the World Heavyweight Championship would be outstanding. It would be amazing. It is the title of the flagship show, Monday Night RAW.”

”It absolutely matters and is important and what Seth is doing with it is a special thing and you’re going to see that the title will be far more in five minutes and then ten minutes. It gains equity every second. But finishing the story has always been about winning the title my dad didn’t get,” he continued.

While Rhodes seems to be in a good place mentally regarding fulfilling his aspirations someday, he was completely devastated after his shocking WrestleMania loss.

Rhodes recalled his terrible mental space after his WrestleMania loss

The multi-time world champion recalled how he couldn’t get out of the nightmare of WrestleMania 39, yet. Although he successfully keeps his chin up, it was a hell of a struggle for the 38-year-old superstar. Despite picking up a massive win last night, the former Intercontinental champion had some flashbacks of his biggest downfall at the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Rhodes noted that his family was in pain at that time. It was difficult to deal with the situation both from a human standpoint and a character standpoint. However, he didn’t want to whine and quickly gained his strength back to stand up with the help of some uplifting words from John Cena.
