Contrary to Popular Belief, Former Wrestling Manager Explains Why John Cena’s WrestleMania Bout Was “One of the Best” of the Show: “That Was the Point”

John Cena undoubtedly holds a major place in the hearts of WWE fans. But this never holds back the WWE Universe from being entirely honest with their opinion on something. Even though it sets up a confrontation against their beloved wrestler. The same happened after Cena’s bout in WrestleMania 39 against Austin Theory. But a WWE legend differs from the popular opinion that surrounds the match.

Over the years, fans have adored The Cenation Leader because of his baby face both inside and outside the ring. But when it came to a critical review of his clash against the 25-year-old top WWE star, they turned blunt. Not only them but even a WWE Hall of Fame legend heavily criticized the match. But when it came to Jim Cornette, he contradicted the rest with his reasoning.

Jim Cornette praises the heavily criticized WrestleMania 39 clash between John Cena and Austin Theory

Speaking on his Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru podcast, the former wrestling manager voiced his opinion on Cena vs Theory bout from WrestleMania 39. Not only did he praise the match from the business viewpoint, but gave reasons for it as well. 

He said, “If you are smart to the business it was actually one of the best matches on the show.” 

After unabashedly presenting his different stance on the match, he explained how the fight makes sense. 

Cornette added, “The point of the whole thing was Austin Theory to beat John Cena at Wrestlemania and they had a match that did that”

He also highlighted the additional elements that the highly criticized match of WrestleMania provided. It gave people a chance to see The Face of the WWE exhibit his skills and charisma. In Cornette’s opinion, “it all made sense and that was the point of the thing.”

The 61-year-old WWE legend concluded that Cena’s match at The Grandest Stage of Them All was the best, despite the superstar’s major mistakes. However, he didn’t stop there as he praised Cena’s honesty in admitting that he was not the same anymore.

During his appearance on Busted Open Radio, The Champ owned up to his aging body and that he cannot deliver a great product to the WWE Universe anymore. Seeing this sheer honesty of John Cena, Jim Cornette couldn’t resist complimenting him. 

He said, “John is one of the most honest people about himself that you will see in the public eye.”

Along with appreciating his honesty, Cornette acknowledged his smartness as well. He then pointed out how Cena doesn’t want to jack people around and not give them a good show. 

All in all, one can conclude from the statements of the former wrestling manager that he is certainly a huge admirer of Cena.
