In 2023, Cody Rhodes experienced a whirlwind comeback in WWE. He emerged victorious in the Royal Rumble, sparking a heated pursuit of Roman Reigns’ championship title. Their WrestleMania main event, though falling short of victory, was praised for its epic storytelling. Beyond his rivalry with Reigns, Rhodes engaged in thrilling matches with Rollins, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar. He even ventured into WarGames, showcasing his adaptability. While his quest for the championship remains unfinished, Rhodes solidified his status as a top star, delivering captivating performances that drew massive crowds.

Recently, Rhodes was interviewed on the Shak Wrestling YouTube channel, where he discussed WrestleMania 40, the launch of AEW, and the WWE 2K24 game. The video, uploaded on January 23rd, hinted at the possibility of Rhodes returning to AEW in the future.

Although Rhodes did not explicitly state it, he expressed a nostalgic sentiment, saying, “I think as I grow older, I’ll probably wax poetic and grow even fonder of the things I was able to be a part of. The people I was able to team with.” In his discussion about his future, Rhodes also expressed his desire to reunite with certain individuals. He remarked, “When we were a group, The Bullet Club, The Elite, the idea was to change the world. We really did actually change, at least, our world. The reality is I can name about eight people.

Rhodes departed from WWE due to creative dissatisfaction with his Stardust persona. After his departure, he worked with The Bullet Club from December 2016 to January 2019 and joined The Elite in October 2018, working alongside Karl Anderson, Luke/Doc Gallows, and Adam Cole. His journey outside of WWE contributed to the creation of AEW, which has emerged as WWE’s biggest rival and an alternative for many wrestlers.

Explaining the significance of his associates, Rhodes emphasized, “If one of them weren’t there, it wouldn’t have happened. An alternative wouldn’t exist. It wouldn’t have springboarded me into the position I am now. All of these factors — and the biggest factor being the fans themselves.

While Rhodes expressed gratitude to his fans for their support, their desire to see Roman Reigns face The Rock in a WrestleMania main event likely influenced a detour of limelight on The American Nightmare. With the anticipated Reigns vs. Rock match stealing the spotlight, Rhodes’ presence as “The American Nightmare” has been overshadowed but he has nothing but respect for the decision.
