WWE has always been quite protective when it comes to allowing their contracted wrestlers to appear in a rival promotion. While the arrival of Triple H at the helm of the company has meant breaking the proverbial fourth wall, the Stamford-based promotion has still got a long way to go.
One has to go as far back as 1990 to find the last collaboration between WWE, AJPW, and NJPW. It is evident that it’s quite a rare occurrence. Now, a Japanese wrestling legend has discussed the WWE blocking one of its talents to compete in his last advertised match.

Japanese legend opens up on WWE’s stance
The Great Muta aka Heiji Muto recently chatted with journalist Marc Raimondi, who posted excerpts of the interaction on his Twitter page. In one of the excerpts, Muta discussed the WWE’s reluctance to let Shinsuke Nakamura wrestle at the Tokyo Dome event in February.
Muto told me, through a translator (the great @the_mizutama), that the initial plan was for him to face Shinsuke Nakamura at the Tokyo Dome last month in his final advertised match. But WWE didn't approve Nakamura for that right away, so Tetsuya Naito was the choice.

Further, Raimondi revealed that when WWE finally made Nakamura available, only then the Pro Wrestling NOAH match, was booked on January 1 as The Great Muta’s final singles match.
When WWE did make Nakamura available, that's when they booked the Pro Wrestling NOAH match on Jan. 1 at the Budokan as The Great Muta's final singles match.
