Hulk Hogan is arguably the most polarizing figure in pro-wrestling history. While he enjoyed adulation from fans and colleagues, The Hulkster wasn’t devoid of controversies. Some of these also dented his friendships over the years. One among them was with a WWE legend, who passed away in 2011. The wrestler and Hogan were close friends, but a divorce in the former’s life changed their equation.
Recently, the 69-year-old spoke about it and gave his account of the incident.

The divorce that broke Hulk Hogan’s friendship with Randy Savage
“Macho Man” Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan were two endearing wrestlers during their time. The duo fought as a team and each other inside the squared circle. Savage and Hogan formed the Mega Powers, a tag team in WWE that remained active between 1987 and 1989. The duo was managed by Macho Man’s then-wife Miss Elizabeth.

The dynamics slowly changed in the group, with Savage growing protective of his wife, and it eventually led to a feud between Hogan and him. This culminated in a match at WrestleMania 5 in 1989. The feud, however, transcended the story and became a part of their real lives as The Immortal One and his once-friend became sworn enemies. It didn’t help matters that Savage and Elizabeth divorced in 1992.
Speaking to Full Send Podcast, Hogan opened up about the iconic rivalry. “When he went through a divorce, he thought I had something to do with it and so that turned out to be like an eight-year, don’t talk to each other thing,” Hogan said.
The 69-year-old was, however, able to patch things up with his friend months before the latter passed away. But do you know where they met? Let’s find out.
Savage once left Hulk Hogan ‘freaked out’ with the unexpected appearance
Built like a tank with 24-inch biceps protruding and a bodybuilder-like physique, Hulk Hogan was quite the physical specimen. Naturally, it wasn’t easy to intimidate the superstar easily. However, Savage admittedly had the wood over him. During a chat with WWE in 2020, the 69-year-old admitted to getting freaked out by Savage during their backstage encounter.
That wasn’t the only time Macho Man left his former tag-team partner scared. According to The Hulkster, Savage and he reconciled during a chance meeting at a doctor’s office in Tampa, Florida. Hogan was waiting with his then-wife, Jennifer when Savage walked in.

“…all of a sudden the door opens and in comes Randy. “Yeeeah! Ooooh yeah! What’s up?” I went, “[Gasp].” Freaked me out, scared me to death,” Hogan told WWE. They reconciled following that meeting and remained friends until a heart attack cut short Savage’s life. Recently, the 69-year-old also bid adieu to one of his fiercest rivals after the latter passed away in his sleep.
