Argentine football star Lionel Messi and Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson were on opposite sides of luck in 2022. While the soccer player lifted his first World Cup trophy, thus fulfilling his longtime wish, the People’s Champ was mired in controversies that saw him having a public fallout involving a character he dreamt of playing for over a decade. And it seems the consequences have also reflected on a prestigious list. While Messi found a spot, the WWE legend was snubbed for the fourth straight year on this list.

So, wasn’t his massive social media following enough to merit him a place on the list? As mentioned above, the Time 100 comprises people who have achieved something significant in the past year.

The list is full of names of Johnson’s colleagues- Michael B. Jordan, Drew Barrymore, Austin Butler, Aubrey Plaza, Salma Hayek Pinault, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Coolidge, Ke Huy Quan, and many more. Their combined social media following might not be enough to eclipse Dwayne Johnson’s 460 million followers. However, each of these individuals has had a breakthrough moment in the past year.
