This year’s WWE Royal Rumble might not be the best one till now, but has definitely incorporated some fascinating angles into it. One of the most hyped among all of them was the Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match, in which the LA Knight clashed with Bray Wyatt. For this match to happen, the owner of the Mountain Dew brand has allegedly paid a bulky amount. To which fans reacted with sarcastic comments stating their sponsorship a ‘waste’.
To make this new concept work, the match was pretty hyped. However, as per most of the fans, the money invested was not that worth it. Even though the brand is known for its initiatives toward outdoor conservation by awarding grants to nonprofits, this time there were highly trolled for their investment.

Fans jeer at the MNC for sponsoring the Pitch Black Match
American Journalist Dave Meltzer discloses the huge sponsorship that WWE received for the Pitch Black match. As per him, Pepsi, the owner of Mountain Dew, spent a million dollars on the bout. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, the journalist shared his views.
He said, “Well, you know the thing is that Mountain Dew one, that was a million-dollar deal. That’s significant money if you can get deals like that. It was a really crappy match though, and they kept it short. I guess Pepsi has to decide whether it’s worth it to spend a million dollars to sponsor a crappy match, maybe it is. I don’t know, on a pay-per-view that was seen by two million people.”
This news has amused the WWE fans and as a result, they started jeering the brand for their ‘horrible investment’. The sarcastic comments are quite hilarious for all but might not be good for the company.

In other words, @MountainDew wasted $1 million dollars on a wrestling match that appeared to take place at a 90s bowling alley. #royalrumble2023 #MountainDew https://t.co/YVhRMjaa6D

The WWE Universe left the arena with disappointment after the Wyatt vs. Knight bout
After 3 months long wait, fans witnessed Wyatt in action. However, disheartened fans had to leave the arena with a bout that didn’t deliver what fans expected. As per the majority of them, the match lacked action and hardcore violence, which they expected in a no-disqualification match.
Even a crucial moment of the eye-catching was unfortunately botched. The time when Uncle Howdy made a splash from an incredible height on Knight left fans disappointed. All of this together turned the most hyped match into a failure. This was clearly seen in fans’ feedback across social media.
