Diamond Dallas Page is a legend and a WWE Hall of Famer. But his first meeting with Vince McMahon, WWE chairperson and CEO, would not go as intended. What he thought of as a heartwarming gesture turned into him being pushed into a failing storyline.

While that debut storyline in WWE may have derailed his career, he is still one of the greatest. Having iconic feuds with the likes of Goldberg, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Hulk Hogan, the self-proclaimed ‘People’s Champ’ put on great matches in WCW.

DDP talks about his first meeting with Vince McMahon

While talking about his stalker storyline with Inside the Ropes, DDP said, “First of all you gotta take, I’ll give you some insight. Some of you probably know it already. The whole hugging thing with McMahon and Austin. I think everybody hugs each other now, but that’s where it started. When I had my meeting with Vince McMahon, we sat in traffic about 3 hours to get there…

When I got there, Vince went to shake my hand, and I said ‘No no, I’ve been waiting for this for 30 years, you’re hugging me.’ And I gave him a hug and I think that became a rib later on, not think I know.

DDP’s shift from WCW to WWF

Being one of the wrestlers from WCW when Vince McMahon bought out the company, he was moved over to WWF along with Booker T. The WWE Universe still considers the Invasion to be one of the biggest missed opportunities in wrestling history, DDP made the most out of his run with WWE.

Certifying himself as a legend in WCW and later in TNA, he earns his title of WWE Hall of Fame for his contribution to the wrestling industry. His last appearance was in AEW where he gave the Dynamite Diamond Ring to MJF, which he uses to this day to win his matches. And his last fight was against the ‘Better Than You’ superstar and The Butcher and The Blade, teaming up with QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes.
