John Cena is arguably the most consistent wrestler of all time. While Dwayne Johnson had a few good years. Bret Hart and Steve Austin held the audience’s attention for a limited time. Hulk Hogan emerged from a clean slate. Cena is the only wrestler who was in the ring day in and day out.

But now with Hollywood, Cena doesn’t have time to wrestle often. His last glorious run in the WWE was in the form of the US Open Challenge, and his recent stint with Roman Reigns was a delight for fans. We all know that the recent pro wrestling landscape is declining weekly. So it is pretty clear that WWE /wrestling needs John Cena. But the genuine question is, does Cena need WWE?
John Cena’s legacy in the WWE
With almost a near-perfect wrestling career spanning multiple iconic feuds, does John Cena need to come back to WWE? His feuds with Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, Batista, CM Punk, Chris Jericho, and many more have cemented Cena’s legacy. But he outdid himself when The Rock came around. The two matches between them are one of the best long-term storylines in ages.
He has won multiple championships and big gimmick matches. This list is just a brief compilation of his achievements:
- 16X WWE World Heavyweight Champion

Not only this list is exhaustive, but it also represents the importance and stake Cena has had in the past two decades in WWE. To add to this, he has been booked and presented as the top star in WWE since 2006. There has been no shortage of iconic moments, whether it be in a match or a promo.
Cena’s Stardom in Hollywood
But now the tables have turned. John Cena has a lot of projects ahead of him in the cinema industry. With 6 movies & TV series to come and Peacemaker being a major hit, ‘The Champ’ is not just a WWE wrestler. While he wasn’t a movie star out of the gate, Cena has stuck to his strong points and made a career in the industry.

To move back to wrestling or make small appearances in WWE seems pointless for the DC villain. His contributions and connections with WWE and their charitable and financial projects are plenty. And to return to wrestling means training again or worse, an injury. This is the main reason The Rock has kept his distance from wrestling for so long.

Why John Cena should return to WWE?
But unlike The Rock, John Cena is a different wrestler. He is a comfortable spot for many wrestling fans. Not only is Cena’s presence needed in wrestling right now, but the lack of big stars has also plagued WWE for a long time now. While Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins tell amazing stories, and Becky Lynch or Bianca Belair could take the poster guy’s space, there has been no mainstream shift in wrestling since John Cena.
Many would claim that Cena was the last big mainstream wrestler. His ability to be the company’s major guy and simultaneously crack jokes at Late Night shows was undeniable. And it is not just about the tickets. When facing an opponent like ‘The Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect Soldier’, the new generation of wrestlers can rub off some of his stardom.
