The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes returned to WWE last year with a grand reception. After being one of the most sought stars in the independent circuit, Rhodes would return to WWE, and immediately involve himself in a feud with Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins.

However, soon after, he would suffer a pectoral injury that would put him out of action for nearly one year. Rhodes would then return at the 2023 Royal Rumble and win the event. And from there, began Rhodes’ red hot form.

However, he would fail to capitalize on his red-hot form after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. And on the following night after that, he would suffer a major beat-down at the hands of Brock Lesnar, who was previously scheduled to be in a tag match with him.

Recently, WWE commentator Corey Graves compared Cody Rhodes’ situation with his father Dusty Rhodes’ situation in the 1980s. Dusty Rhodes is a legend, however, he had to make his way to the top. During the 1980s, Dusty Rhodes was going through a rough patch and was having an underwhelming run. Graves would bring that up and compare it with his son’s current run.

The American Nightmare would fall flat on his face at Raw after ‘Mania, after his failure at WrestleMania 39. Graves would be present on commentary last Monday’s Raw and witnessed Rhodes’ vicious beat down at the hands of Lesnar.

Speaking on his podcast, After The Bell, he would compare Rhodes’ loss to his father’s underwhelming run during the 1980s. He would claim that Rhodes’ road toward glory is not over, and there is plenty left in it. He would further explain the loss at WrestleMania would lead the fans to connect with him more emotionally.

Graves said, “Dusty became the common man because Dusty constantly came up short, usually due to no fault of his own. But people connected with that, people understand that.” The 39-year-old further stated that his loss was like giving more hope to his fans, and having them achieve the utmost sense of joy, when he finally finishes his story.

As per rumors, Rhodes is scheduled to face Brock Lesnar, after suffering a major beatdown from him.
