This week is extra special for sports entertainment fans. While the NFL Super Bowl is right around the corner, the city of Las Vegas was embraced by the presence of WWE superstars for the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press event. Wrestling fans dubbed the event as one of the most chaotic yet scintillating events in the recent past. While there were no matches, fans were still on the edge of their seats to witness Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, & Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the same roof. What transpired between the trio will be etched in the annals of wrestling folklore as a riveting segment unfolded in front of fans’ eyes.

Lines were crossed

The stage was set for the moment everyone across the globe was waiting for. Seth Rollins first came to the stage and Roman Reigns swiftly followed him. After the two exchanged some barbs, with Reigns even saying that Rollins wore his wife’s shoes for the show, The Rock came in and verbally attacked Cody Rhodes’ fans. That was the moment when fans realized that Johnson might have turned heel. It has been years since Johnson had made comments that could hurt the sentiments of fans. After that, Johnson showed the Anoa’i Bloodline to the fans, hinting that the main event now is a personal business.

The purpose of the family tree was to remind fans that the Anoa’i Family has been the best in the business and so the two cousins deserve to square off at WrestleMania 40. However, Cody Rhodes was not happy. He called them out and told Reigns that he would fight him at WrestleMania, and this time, no one would stop him. Hearing this, Reigns told Rhodes to stop, as he was now embarrassing his father, Dusty Rhodes.

But Rhodes was not going to stay quiet today. After hearing this, he told Reigns that if their grandfather, The High Chief Peter Maivia had been present here, he would have been embarrassed by Reigns. This prompted Johnson to react in such a way that hints at an alliance with Reigns. He slapped the former AEW star for the disrespect he showed. Nevertheless, this cemented the fact that Johnson and Rhodes are at odds now.

Fans have been talking about this segment, even calling it cinema. While it surely was an exciting moment, the question is what will happen next?

What will happen at WrestleMania 40?

The slap has left fans with more questions than answers. While we now know that Cody Rhodes will be facing Roman Reigns at this year’s WrestleMania, fans are left thinking about how the story might move forward. One thing that fans know for sure is that the relationship between Rhodes and Johnson is not the same anymore. If you remember, Rhodes and Johnson showed a cordial bond back on the 02/02 episode of SmackDown. The American Nightmare called Johnson onto the ring, and the two exchanged pleasantries. But today it was a different mood. Johnson was angry from the start and the two barely smiled at each other.

While it looks like Roman Reigns will have Johnson’s support, Rhodes might not be all by himself either. Even though Seth Rollins has been persuading Rhodes to challenge him, he has admitted that he has a lot of respect for the former AEW star. So, he was the first one to attack Johnson today after he slapped Rhodes. While Rollins and his championship title is something that fans have been overlooking due to the ongoing drama, he could become a crucial part of the story.

Why so? Because if Johnson and Reigns are going to charge at him with all their might, Rhodes will need some backup. Who knows, maybe we could get a tag team match between Johnson & Reigns vs Rhodes & Rollins at the 2024 Elimination Chamber just to warm up the audience for what’s in store for WrestleMania 40. What do you think will happen next? Will we get to see new alliances? What’s next for Cody Rhodes?

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let?s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
