One thing that made WWE fans fall in love with Dwayne Johnson was his mic segments. Every week on SmackDown and RAW, The Rock would come out and brutally humiliate his opponents. Sometimes these were his upcoming opponents, or sometimes it would be random wrestlers who did something on the show.

This led many to believe that Johnson might have issues backstage. But this WWE Hall of Famer revealed what the actual locker room looked like when The Rock’s mic segments were on air.

Kurt Angle expresses his feeling toward The Rock’s brutal promos

On the latest episode of his podcast, The Kurt Angle Show, the former WWE Champion spilled all the beans about working with The Rock. While he wasn’t the global superstar he is today, The Rock was still the most famous character on TV. So, there were a lot of details about his life, work ethic, and general stuff that Angle talked about.

As Angle had been the victim of The Rock’s insulting promos, his co-host was intrigued if that developed into a beef in real life. Angle replied, “No, no, no. And if anybody should have been upset, it should have been me. I absolutely love when he did them. I was laughing my a** off. If he was talking about me, it didn’t matter. I loved his promos.

While these segments did not start real-life feuds, they started brawls on-screen. But there was one instance where one of The Rock’s segments bleed too deep and may have cost a wrestler his future.

There was no one who suffered more because of Johnson’s mic segments than Billy Gunn. At this point, the interaction between the two is cemented as WWE’s best meme.

Hot off his tag team championship reign with Road Dogg, Gunn was supposed to debut as a singles competitor that night. But The Rock called him Bob and did a segment where Johnson talked to God and brutally stepped on any future singles’ hope for Gunn.

But one person who benefitted from these mic segments and The Rock’s catchphrases almost 20 years later was Pat McAfee. Not only did he ask Johnson’s permission to use them, but he also got advice from the former WWE Champion.
