Dwayne Johnson Once Rejected the Main Protagonist’s Role in a $58.7 Million Movie Because It Was Not Interesting to Him

Dwayne Johnson started his Hollywood career in 2001. And just a year after his debut, he got the role of first lead in a movie. It is not a secret that the initial years of any actor’s career are quite important. It is the time when budding talents never dare to reject even the role of an extra. But when it comes to Dwayne Johnson, then he did the unexpected. The WWE superstar once rejected the main role of a movie, just because it was not interesting to him.

The time when Dwayne Johnson preferred the secondary lead over the main one

In 2005, Dwayne Johnson appeared in an Andrzej Bartkowiak-directed Hollywood movie Doom. He shared the screen with John Wells, Lorenz di Bonaventura, and some other big names in Hollywood at that time. Johnson played the role of Sgt. Asher “Sarge” Mahonin was the secondary protagonist in the movie.

However, it was not the role that the casting director originally offered the former WWE world champion. According to the reports, Dwayne Johnson was offered the role of John ‘Reaper’ Grimm/Doomguy in the movie which was the main protagonist. But, he rejected that role because it was not enough interesting to him.

The entire plot of the movie revolved around a squad of eight marine officers who were sent on a mission to Mars to destroy inhumane creatures. Even though the plot was unique at that time, still the movie didn’t do pretty well at the box office.

Doom (2005) was one of the initial films of Dwayne Johnson. And since it was a massive failure, it adversely affected The Rock’s budding acting career.

However, Johnson ended up putting the grief of this failure aside and decided to move forward. Now, Dwayne Johnson is among the highest-paid Hollywood superstars. He has given several back-to-back hits. Thousands of fans end up buying the tickets just because Dwayne Johnson’s name is written in the casting list. It proves that now, only his name is enough to sell a movie.

Dwayne Johnson’s current status

If we talk about the current scenario, then right now, Dwayne Johnson is busy promoting his upcoming Hollywood movie with Chris Evans. Fans will see both their favorite stars sharing the screen at the end of the year in a holiday movie.

And if we dive into Johnson’s WWE status, then it is still a mystery. No one knows when the ‘People’s Champ’ will re-enter the wrestling world. So for now, fans just have to feel satisfied with his Hollywood projects.
