Despite having a troubled relationship together, Johnson now thanks his late father for everything he did. In a recent podcast episode, the WWE legend revealed his father’s role in making him become a good parent.

The Brahma Bull appeared on the latest episode of Trevor Noah’s What Now podcast. He told the host about how his father was merely 13 years old when he was kicked out of his house by his mother for getting in a fight with her drunk boyfriend. Since all Rocky Johnson knew from his childhood was hustle, he wanted to prepare his son for the same. While a young DJ couldn’t understand his father’s love language, he empathized with him now that he was in the same shoes as him.

The Hollywood superstar claims that he does all that he can to give all his time and energy to his three daughters. This is because he knows what it’s like to ‘never receive a hug’ or ‘not get a kiss on the cheek’ from his own father.

By the end of the topic, Johnson confessed, “Man, I love and appreciate my old man. We had a complicated relationship, but my daughters helped shape me being a man. My dad helped shape me being a man but also being a father in what to do and the stuff that I missed and I don’t wanna give to my little girls.”

The Rock makes sure to pass on the wise teachings from his father to his daughters. However, he also makes sure to give his children what he didn’t receive as a son.

Even though the father-son duo shared a troubled relationship, the 56-year-old has made it pretty clear that he is grateful that he was Rocky Johnson’s son. In fact, the birthday message he uploaded for his old man was enough to convey this message.
