Twenty-two years after the release of the first Fast & Furious film, audiences will watch its tenth installment on May 19. The franchise boasts of an iconic ensemble cast, including Dame Helen Mirren, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.
While two out of the three names will feature in Fast X, Johnson will not. Though a lot has already been written about the feud between Diesel and Johnson, the latter’s absence from the franchise would be a hard spot to fill.
Meanwhile, one cannot blame Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson entirely for the fallout, especially after Diesel’s proposed uncanny idea to be the alpha star in fight sequences.

Vin Diesel wanted to assign numerical values to every move while filming action scenes
Call it a genius idea or one that stemmed from a bloated ego, Vin Diesel, the face of the Fast & Furious franchise, wanted to look good and hence devised a plan that would have humiliated his other co-stars, namely Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson.
According to a 2019 report by The Wall Street Journal, Diesel, 55, wanted to keep track of every move that his co-stars were making, while filming an action sequence. His rationale was simple: everyone should get hit equally. However, one might argue that it was pitched to prevent the likes of Dwayne Johnson from emerging out as the bigger hero.

Needless to say, when put to test, the idea was scrapped for being too complex. Still, it’s sad to learn that a seasoned actor like Diesel would ever resort to something that weird just to protect his on-screen image.
Dwayne Johnson’s blood boiled while working with his Fast & Furious male co-stars
While shooting Fast 8 in 2016, Johnson had raised an alarm about the male co-stars, mocking them as “Candy a**es”. Even though the viral post was deleted, Johnson stuck to his sentiment when quizzed about it a few months later.
“I was very clear with what I said. I’ve been in the game a long time,” a Los Angeles Times report on November 19, 2016 quoted the $800 million actor as saying.

While there were reports since then about the stars resolving their differences, with Vin Diesel calling Johnson a part of his family in a 2017 chat with USA Today, clearly they haven’t reached a consensus.

Both Diesel and Johnson are mega action stars and bonafide box-office giants. Fans would have loved to see the two together, especially with the aforementioned franchise preparing for a swansong. One can hope that the stars can keep their egos aside and work in unison, for the sake of fans. After all, Johnson is the People’s Champ.
