The latest edition of WWE SmackDown has divided the wrestling community. The end of the broadcast surely did not mean the end of the discussions on the recent booking decision by the WWE. As Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble for the second consecutive time, fans were all-in to see him as the one to dethrone Roman Reigns. However, the WWE had other plans in mind.

First, Seth Rollins approached Cody Rhodes and offered him a shot at his title and how it would be the right decision to make. And tonight, the final nail in the coffin came as Rhodes himself walked, giving “The Rock” the opportunity to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. He didn’t just possibly walk out on the opportunity to main event WrestleMania, but also the chance to win the most prestigious title and fulfill his father’s dream of being a champion. This decision has been questioned by fans, former wrestlers, and even current WWE superstars such as Sami Zayn, who seems to have taken a shot at The Rock.

After the broadcast of SmackDown ended, social media platform X was abuzz with fans talking about WWE’s booking decision and making “The American Nightmare” walk out on Reigns. While many took shots at the WWE on X, it seems like Sami Zayn took a direct shot at the Rock after the tapings were done, as he shared a promo with the fans in attendance. A viral X post sharing the moment is making the rounds on the internet, with the caption, “it’s awesome to have The Rock. We’re lucky to have him. But you know, The Rock is lucky to have the WWE, too. Because we are living in the best time with the best superstars in the WWE,” a quote said by Sami Zayn on the mic.

Sami further stated how current-generation superstars have to constantly bear comparisons with previous generations and the “good old days.” But now is the actual best time to be in the company. He said, “We have to constantly listen to people talk about the good old days. Well, I got news for you, tonight 10,000 people sold out this building in Birmingham. To see the best performers in the world. So I have news for you and everybody; the good old days are right here, right now!”

This could be a dig at how this is the best time for The Rock, as despite being away for months and years, he can come back and steal the limelight from superstars like Cody Rhodes, who built up their momentum for over a year. It can be directly compared to the Rock stealing away the main event from CM Punk at WrestleMania 28.

Other comparisons can be made with moments like Batista winning the Royal Rumble. At the same time, fans wanted Daniel Bryan to win the championship or Bill Goldberg to make occasional appearances only main event major PPVs. With this booking decision receiving the same treatment as the recent ones by Summer Rae and Zayn, can we witness a drop in ticket sales? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
