Hailing from the legendary Guerrero wrestling family, it was evident that Eddie Guerrero would follow in the footsteps of his pro-wrestler father, Gory. After honing his skills in AAA and NJPW, Eddie moved to ECW and later to WCW. He spent five years in the latter promotion. However, he found fame after signing with the WWE at the start of the new millennium.

While Eddie Guerrero played a heel for most of his tenure in the promotion, the WWE Universe loved him for his in-ring abilities. In 2004, just a year before his death, the ‘Latino Heat’ won the WWE Championship, making him more popular than ever. Yet, a former WWE star has revealed that Eddie desired something that wouldn’t have pleased the WWE Universe then.

Eddie’s in-ring motto of ‘lie, cheat and steal’ was made popular during his stint on the tag team Los Guerreros, where he wrestled alongside his real-life nephew, Chavo Guerrero. Chavo, who wrestled in the WWE for a decade, recently revealed his uncle’s shocking desire, months before the latter’s untimely death.

Appearing on Chris Van Vliet’s recent podcast, the 52-year-old said Eddie Guerrero wanted to leave the WWE. “He just didn’t want to be on the road anymore. He loved his family a lot. He really, really did, and he wanted to be home with his family. I remember before he passed, like 6 months before, I remember him coming to me and saying, ‘I don’t want to be here anymore.’,” Chavo said.

He said his uncle was confused, adding, “I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘I don’t want to wrestle anymore.’ I said, ‘Dude, drop out and do something else.’ He got really mad and said, ‘What am I going to do? What else am I going to do? This is what we do. We wrestle.’”

The ‘Latino Heat’ was found in an unconscious state by Chavo On November 13, 2005. Doctors declared him dead upon arrival at the hospital. A medical report stated heart failure as the cause of his demise, aged 38. Eddie’s death admittedly forced the 2x WWE Tag Team Champion to rethink his life.
