Edge Returning to WWE SmackDown Before SummerSlam

WWE Hall of Famer Edge is missing from WWE television since the post-WrestleMania edition of SmackDown. However, the wait to see him won’t be long. The ‘Rated-R Superstar’ is returning as WWE gets back on the road again!

Edge slated for SummerSlam match, still on WWE SmackDown

During Living the Gimmick: A Pro Wrestling Podcast last week, Jon Alba reported that WWE Legend Edge is set for a SummerSlam match. He notes Edge will wrestle at the PPV as a babyface. However, there is no opponent in mind.

WWE is also advertising the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the July 16th edition of SmackDown, which is the first show with live crowds in full capacity! This means Edge will definitely work a full-time program heading into the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer.’

Considering Edge will be working as a babyface, that makes Seth Rollins one of the frontrunners to be his opponent. After all, WWE wouldn’t like to rekindle a rivalry between him and Reigns again. And Seth Rollins is the next top heel after Reigns on the blue brand.

They also have a long history together. Rollins infamously threatened to stomp Edge’s head on his MITB briefcase back in 2015. We’re sure the ‘Ultimate Opportunist‘ has not forgotten. Him and Rollins could really steal the show at SummerSlam. Let’s see how the storyline goes.

Rollins and Edge in one ring screams a dream match scenario. It will definitely blow the roof off the Allegiant Stadium. However, there is still no guarantee whether that’s where WWE is going. But….

There are not many heels on SmackDown that could really come up to be Edge’s opponent. So even though it’s our guess Rollins will be Edge’s opponent, we’re sure that’s the direction WWE will go in.
